Communications/Serial Port – A port on the back of your PC that allows you to access devices such as modems, mice or in this case, a PABX.  It may be either 9 (more common) or 25 pin port.

Buffer Box – A device that plugs into your communications port between the PABX and the PC and “buffers” data in the case of your PC being switched off for any period of time to prevent you from missing any data (calls).

Front Office System (FOS) – Another software package used by accommodation houses to take bookings/reservations, manage trust accounts and help manage a front office.

Hyperlinks – Links within a document that allow you to perform specified actions such as “jump” to a particular location within this or another document, send an email, download a file, etc.  They are usually normal text that is blue and underlined like this - but may change colour once you have followed it.

Carriers – Alternative (to Telstra®) phone companies such as RSLCOM, AAPT, Optus, etc.

SMDR – Station Message Detail Recording – also known as CDR – Call Data Record

Least Cost Routing (LCR) – Automatic selection of the different carrier when a user makes a call through the PABX.
